I was at Home Depot the other day and they had all their seeds out, calling my name... so I got veggies in every color of the rainbow. Aren't they gorgeous?
I must get this point out in the open... this my first time planting my very own garden! It is going to be an adventure and a learning process, I am sure. Though I did study horticulture my focus was more on the ornamental side of things, and not so much the agricultural. Obviously a plant is a plant... needs soil, water, light... seeds, roots, flowers... it can't be that much different can it?
All I am saying is we're in this together and hopefully we can learn from each other. My parents have always grown a nice garden, so I'm sure I will be calling my mom often. I would love to hear what any of you are planning! My Relief Society (church group) is having a gardening class next week, so I'll let you know if I learn something new!

You could plant your herbs in pots. That may save you some room.
ReplyDeleteIf you buy green onions from Walmart you can cut of the green part and put the white part with a little sticking out the top in a pot of dirt and they will grow. I did this in Vegas and it works like a charm. No need for seeds.
That is awesome that your ward is having a gardening class! That is not included in our activities because I wouldn't know the next thing about what to tell them :) That is so fun that you get your own garden! How will I ever have my yummy fresh veggies if I don't learn how to plant a garden. I don't think I got any green thumbs... you'll have to teach me someday. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI didn't get a green thumb either! I have garden boxes but have no idea where to start. I can't wait until the weather is a little nicer and you can come one day and help me and the kids can play in the dirt. :)
ReplyDeleteI got lured into the seed isle as well yesterday, and picked up my seeds for the year. I've become a bit lazy now and plant starts for my tomatoes, squash, and peppers. They get to the bearing stage so much faster. it's OK to be in a small area. It won't give you a lot to can, but you will have plenty to enjoy on the table!
